How do I remove this handle and replace it with new one?
HI Team,
Our bathroom's tap is broken and would like to replace it myself. I am not sure how to remove it and replace it with a new one. I have attached the broken tap and new tap images. I would request you guys to please help. I also have WD-40 if it will help.
Thanks,
Fida

Re: How do I remove this handle and replace it with new one?
Hi @fidakd,
Thank you for your post and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you join us.
I'm not 100% certain about that one, but I suspect you'll need to remove the old cover plate by rotating it anti clockwise to reveal the spindle. This might require you to reattach the old tap handle so you can hold the tap handle still while rotation the cover plate.
Once this cover plate is off, you should be able to see the spindle and depending on the circumstances, you may need to purchase a Shaw & Mason Tap Handles And Flanges Fixing Kit and a Shaw & Mason Ivory Plastic Wall Flange to allow you to attach your new tap handles.
As I said, I'm not 100% certain so please allow me to make some enquiries with colleagues and I'll get back to you shortly.
In the meantime, allow me to tag some of our helpful members to see if they can assist, @redracer01, @Dave-1, @Noyade.
Let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi Jacob,
Thanks for your quick response.
I have removed the cover plate. But I dont know how to remove the white cover on the spindle. Or should I not remove that cover?

Re: How do I remove this handle and replace it with new one?
Hi @JacobZ
I used to have the handles seen packaged in @fidakd's photo above. And from memory, those plastic wall flanges you mention are required, but also the spindles that have thread on the handle end.
Something like a Stanley knife gently pries off the inner white caps and removing the red and blue inner rings allows a socket to fit the two nuts seen in the top right of the photo above. Working against the spring, you tighten the handles into place with the nuts and once secure, replace the rings and caps.
Or so my memory thinks. 🤔

Re: How do I remove this handle and replace it with new one?
Good Evening @fidakd
I am thinking that you will have to change the whole spindal as well. The old spindal looks like its been made for purpose and the new taps are "most" purpose fittings (replaced similar ones that were broken with the new ones you have) I would wait for @JacobZ to get back to you but wont be surprised that you may need new spindals. (They are easy to do, you already have the hard work done as we can see the large nut on the spindal in your last photo)

Re: How do I remove this handle and replace it with new one?
Hi @fidakd,
I can't say I've come across a spindle with a white plastic top like this before. I'd hazard a guess that the white plastic piece is removable to reveal a metal spindle with a thread beneath, but I'm not 100% certain of this so please hold off until I can be certain.
Please allow me to speak with some colleagues and I will get back to you tomorrow when they are available to assist.

Re: How do I remove this handle and replace it with new one?
Hi @fidakd,
Those white plastic fittings should pull off. You might need to place a timber block on the bench and use a large flathead screwdriver to lever them off. Once removed, they should reveal a standard spindle, which you can use the kit on.
If you do need to replace the whole spindle, then these basin spindles are what you need. Check the depth on the current one and match it up.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
