How can i remove bath taps?

IMG_5694.jpeg

I’ve got some quite old taps in the bathroom and I’m looking to replace them with more modern fittings.

There was a bit of calcium build up on the hot water tap. For the life of me I can figure out how to get either the taps or the spout off. There’s no screw underneath the spout, which makes me think it is a screw type but I can’t get it to turn a millimetre and I’m not wanting to break it or the plumbing. As for the taps, I imagine the flange is just screwed but I can’t get any grip on the to rotate them.

I’ve taken the hot water handle off to reveal no screw underneath.

Any help would be appreciated!

Re: How can i remove this bath tub tap setting?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Jonopan. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about removing taps.

It sounds like the are firmly locked in place with calcium and buildup. For the tap covers, you'll likely have to distructively remove them with multi-grip pliers. They provide the best grip on the domed covers, though will scratch them up in the removal process.

As for the spout, it likely just unscrews from the wall. However, when you get no movement, it is concerning that you might damage pipework. You can try some WD-40 at the wall where it connects to see if that frees it up. Otherwise, you might need to enlist the services of a plumber to try and remove it.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
