Hi all, planning a bathroom reno and after advice on the suspended ceiling.
Initial plan I had was to have a plasterer gyprock all over it with a single panel but have found out from strata the suspended ceiling drop in panel function must stay as the unit above me’s bathroom pipes are in the cavity and the plumber may need future access to them.
Can i have a recommendation please for residential drop in panels? Easy craft easy vj100 wa?
As I need to get rid of the old melamine panels,
tx in advance

Hi @Henski,
You could potentially use Easycraft panels, but they are not designed to be dropped in and only supported around their edges. They need to be fixed to a series of 450mm spaced battens. If the panels are not secured adequately, there is a good chance they will sag, especially when exposed to the humidity of a bathroom.
Depending on your grid size, you might like to look at the Siniat 1200 x 600 x 10mm Ceiling Tile Vinyl Smooth - 6 Pack. They're designed to be installed in existing gridwork and are suitable for wet areas. We also have the Gyprock CSR 591 x 1191 x 10mm White Freshtone Diamond Ceiling Tile.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi , an old post am dragging up as still making plans for the Reno.
idea now is to have a feature ceiling and plain gloss white walls.
so am looking at easy craft vj panel to be used as ceiling and white gloss tiles to be used as wall.
so https://www.bunnings.com.au/easycraft-3600-x-1200mm-9mm-lining-panel-white-mrmdf-primed-vj-100mm_p04... to be used as ceiling and for floor to ceiling wall tiles https://www.bunnings.com.au/duratile-30-x-60cm-white-gloss-ceramic-wall-tile-8-pack_p6661134.
As the easycraft panel on the site says it’s preprimed in cream, believe may be just able to use white paint over It and no primer paint.
but can u confirm the closest match in white paint to the white wall tiles?
as ideally don’t want a major clash in colour, tx
Hi @Henski
To get the ideal colour of white that you're after, I suggest visiting the stores paint department with one of your tiles. I recommend looking at the colour sample board and matching up your tile to the colour that you like.
Once you've picked out a few shades of white, I suggest asking the paint specialist to mix up a small sample pot so that you can test it on your ceiling with the tile beside it. When you find the shade that you like, you can then have a large batch tinted in that colour.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Tx, will do.
Have another question.
what is the worse that could happen if use regular vj paneling in the link above for the ceiling vs more expensive wet area paneling like https://www.bunnings.com.au/easycraft-2400-x-1200mm-9mm-lining-panel-white-mrmdf-primed-wet-area-100... Tx
Hi @Henski
It would be advisable to use the wet area panelling as this is designed to cope with heavy moisture. The regular panel on the other hand if repeatedly exposed to heavy moisture will eventually get damaged.
Renovating your bathroom does not happen often. I suggest investing in premium materials so that you'll get a longer service life for your bathroom.
If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know,

Tx, how many coats of paint suggested with easycraft wet area panelling?
Hi @Henski
I recommend a minimum of two coats and make sure to paint any area that's been cut before attaching the panel to its position permanently.

Another question, I’m looking to use water based paint https://www.bunnings.com.au/taubmans-2l-white-flat-easycoat-ceiling-paint_p0400990 on wet area easycraft panel https://www.bunnings.com.au/easycraft-2400-x-1200mm-9mm-lining-panel-white-mrmdf-primed-wet-area-100....
believe I have info from vendor is to use acrylic paint but all Bunnings ceiling paint seem to be water based.
can water based paint be used on that?
Hi @Henski,
Acrylic paint is water-based paint. If you are looking at using flat paint in your bathroom, I would suggest going with one like Dulux White Ceiling +PLUS Kitchen and Bathroom Paint - 2L that's designed for wet areas.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
