Hi guys. I have hardwood floors in my laundry and 2nd toilet. We are going to be tiling over them.
My question is- do we need to put cement sheeting down before tiling the laundry and 2nd toilet??
Thanks in advance.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @kori. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about laying tiles on floorboards.
It's best to place James Hardie 1800 x 1200 x 6mm 2.16m² Ceramic Tile Underlay Flooring down first and tile over that. Your floorboards are flexible, whereas your tiles are rigid. The tiles will be much more structurally sound over the underlay, which is also rigid. Some installers will try to get around this by using a flexible adhesive over the floorboards, but results can vary, and it's not something that I would personally recommend.
You should find these step-by-step guides helpful: How to install tile underlay and How to lay floor tiles.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
