I would greatly appreciate if anyone can advise if the Acoustic Pinboard can be used 'within' a wall to reduce sound. Not sure if it is 'rated' to be placed inside a wall.
Thank you for your constructive answers.
It is designed to be used on the outside of the wall.
Knauf have a comparison of performance - The Flow Resistivity of Knauf Insulation at 9000Rayl/m compared to polyester at 580Rayl/m shows that glasswool will provide superior acoustic performance. That is at 50mm thickness for both.
Glasswool is a lot cheaper.
hi @JN
Any insulation will do to limit some noise internal to the walls, But sound will hit say gyprock and transfer through timber to the gyprock on the other side and the insulation will slightly block that. But the hard materials will still transmit sound throungh there hardness. If you are after a dramatic decrease in sound tx look harder
I used glass insulation between bedroon and kithen . kitchen noise still comes through loud and clear banging and clanking.
The best way is using the best acuostic foam avaliable for sound blocking look up its specifications.
Acoustic pinboard is a good starting place and best looking bunning option try it in store put it against your ear? I never tried this.
Others use foam and egg cartons. Any soft furnishing will also help. I might even pin up carpet think under foam and also carpet the whole wall as an option.
Or search outside of bunnings start looking at music warehouses they would have the real deal. for serious sounds most likly.
Good luck on your search.
Hello @JN
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's marvellous to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about acoustic pinboards.
It's great that you've received excellent advice from @Brad and @Jewelleryrescue. Is there a particular reason you wish to use acoustic pinboards inside your walls? There is better sound rated insulation such as the Earthwool R2.7 SHD 90mm x 430mm x 1160mm 5.0m² Insulation SoundShield Wall Batt - Pack of 10. But to answer your question, the acoustic pinboard can be used inside the wall. I also suggest having a look at the Bastion 1200 x 600 x 30mm XPS Multi-Use Insulation Foam Board as another option for sound insulation.
If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
