Hi all,
We are laying hybrid flooring throughout our house. We are just stuck on the best place to start to minimise laying the boards backwards. For example, if we started at the front door we would be laying backwards into a bedroom on the right and eventually through the dining.
is there any advice on where to start in the house to reduce this? Thanks
Hello @sophpresto
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about hybrid flooring.
I propose having a quick look at this featured project - Hybrid flooring installation over tiled floor by @WoodenGregsWood. The flooring was laid out starting at the wall going from left to right and travelling along until they reached the other wall on the other side.
You'll see in the discussion that there are pictures of how the flooring was laid out in a hall and how it entered the other rooms. There is also a picture of how the flooring was arranged in the kitchen and a progress shot of the living room. Although there are no fixed rules regarding the layout of the flooring, it somehow looks better when arranged in a vertical pattern rather than a horizontal pattern when entering the house.
My best advice is to layout some boards starting in a corner and see how many walls you'll be laying up to. You can then try and reverse the pattern by laying it on the other wall to the left or right and see how it will look. Again, you can count the number of walls you'll be laying up to.

Evening @sophpresto
You had me thinking about how I have seen floorboards laid. The majority of the times its vertically away from the front door, I think its to give an appearance of depth of space to the entry, then it will flow from there left or right.
Interestingly I helped some friends out years ago in laying their floating deck (there was lots of discussion going on before I dropped over) and they went with vertically from the side door but they had carpet through from the front door to the kitchen area (would result in horizontal look at the front door if they ever decided to do the whole house. Looking back Id probarly try and change their decision on the boards.

Hi @sophpresto My only recommendation which @Dave-1 has mentioned is to lay the boards lengthwise to the main entry to the home and the rest of the home will work themselves out.
