How to repair bi-fold door off the track?

Our laundry has bi-fold doors. When we bought the place they'd come away from their track, so while they were able to pivot and close, they wouldn't run up and down the track and just flapped freely instead. Today the pin for the top pivot made a leap for freedom and promptly disappeared into an alternate universe (probably down the laundry waste point).

The track measures ~16x16mm (and spans the 1020mm frame). Each door is ~505mm wide, 2040mm high & 30mm thick. They're solid timber so quite heavy.

The pivot holes are at the edge of each leaf and there seems to be a superfluous one in the middle. I have the mounting pin for the bottom and all that's left of the top pivot is a conical spring and a washer. I tried unscrewing and removing the track to look for a manufacturer but it's either been glued in or effectively glued with paint. I suppose I might need to remove it anyway to get the runner back in correctly.

Looking for some advice on what parts I need to pick up to rehang this door and get it running along its track again.

Re: How to repair bi-fold door off the track?

Hi @Andy2_,

Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.

We can't be 100% certain without an identifying mark on the track or components, but it looks like your door might use the Barracuda 13kg door system which is produced by Cowdroy.

I have spoken to their technical team who believe it could be an older version of this system as they are no longer produced in widths above 915mm. They believe this S31100 Top Pivot Set - Barracuda is likely what you are after. This part can be ordered through your local store's Special Orders desk.

They believe that the white guide in your 3rd photo is the likely reason for failure. You can see in the architectural drawings which are available here, that the white guide is not supposed to sit inside the track, rather it is pressed against the flutes that I have highlighted in green by the spring loaded pin. When you replace this part, moving this guide to its intended location will likely resolve the issue of it coming off the track.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Jacob
