How to remove tarnish from lights?

Is there anything I can do to improve these lights. The base seems to be going rusty

Re: I have had these table lights for a couple of years but they seem to be going rusty .

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @jass13. So, sorry that we missed greeting you when you made your first post.

It certainly appears like you have some type of tarnish on your lights. It could be rust from the internal metal that has penetrated the coating. If this is coated metal, then there's not much you can do as the rust is underneath the painted/electroplated coating. You could consider sanding the coating back to metal, treating the rust, and then re-coating the light with gold spray paint.

I suspect this isn't brass, but if it is, you can use Brasso to remove the tarnish.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
