I moved to a new house and noticed that many vinyl planks were lifted and squeaking when I walked through it. I bought Dunlop vinyl adhesive and a putty knife. I don't know how to start this work. I have noticed the transition strips are also not installed properly. I have attached here some photos for reference. Please help me out. Thank you, Mac.
Hello @Mac4
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about your flooring.
It looks like your flooring is a clip-on laminate system, which means it isn't designed to be glued down with Dunlop vinyl adhesive. Instead, the best way to fix the gaps and squeaking issues is to relay the affected planks.
To start, you'll need to carefully remove the planks in the problem areas, starting from the nearest wall or transition strip. Since the floor is floating, any movement or expansion over time may have caused the planks to shift, leading to the gaps and lifting. When reinstalling, ensure each plank is properly locked into place and that the correct gap is provided at the end of the wall.
For the transition strips, if they are loose or incorrectly installed, you may need to secure them with appropriate fasteners or adhesive, depending on the type used. If the subfloor is uneven, this could also contribute to the squeaking, so it's worth checking before relaying the flooring.
Here is a handy step-by-step guide: How to lay laminate flooring.
The guide will give you a much better idea of how the flooring was originally installed and what you'll need to do repair it.
