Re: Can the cover strips on old walls be removed and seams filled to appear as flat seamless walls?

Hi  @Summer2025

I do  believe that is possible with out too much  trouble.

Step

1/ Take  off the timber strips

2/  Use plaster webbing tape off a roll and it sticks on. I might use two widths and over lap them if the sheets in the wall have a large  gap 30 mm or so.

Gyprock Easy Tape 90m Plasterboard Jointing Tape I/N: 0731009 $21.22

3 / Then  apply  gyprock joint  compound with a medium large metal spatula to fill the gap and over the top of the webbing until it is  smooth and flat.

Gyprock CSR 2.25kg Less Mess Multi-Purpose Joint Compound  I/N: 0173344    $20.86

4 / Sand the walls smooth

5/  Re apply Gyprock topping compound into the little remaining blemishes and  re sand ready for painting

Gyprock CSR 2.25kg Less Mess Topping Compound   0173348    $23.49

Hello @Summer2025

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about removing the strips on your wall.

It's great that you've received excellent advice from @Jewelleryrescue. I was thinking of exactly the same thing, but Jewelleryrescue got ahead of me. My best advice is to check one of the strips first to confirm what type of wall covering you have.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Eric
