Ways to make your home look more expensive.jpeg

Making your home look more modern, stylish and expensive doesn’t have to be a costly or difficult D.I.Y. task.

Below are some creative ways Bunnings Workshop members have added elegance and a touch of luxury to their homes.

1. Choose modern finishes

Choosing finishes like brushed gold, brass or matte black when updating tapware or handles can create a modern look. Aletheia and Brent (@homeinmelbourne) used brass fittings and finishes in this luxury D.I.Y. bathroom renovation

Experienced Bunnings Workshop member Mariana (@lifestylebymari) shares how easy it is to refresh tapware using spray paint.

2. Add a fresh coat of paint

Fresh paint can help conceal imperfections and outdated features. Tracey (@raceytrace) used paint to create a luxurious marble-look benchtop in this cost-effective project.

Paint can also be a great way to make a room look bigger

3. Enhance street appeal

A well-manicured front lawn and stylish entrance can help create a great first impression, and even potentially increase the value of your home. While refreshing their front yard, Workshop member @LaCasaDIY created a grand and inviting entrance using an arbor and a path built using travertine pavers and pebbles.

4. Add character to your walls

Make your home feel grander and stylish by using wainscoting and VJ panelling to add character and depth to your walls. Kashia (@KashiaCherry) used simple timber wainscoting to elevate a painted feature wall in this contemporary bedroom update

5. Declutter and organise

A clean and clutter-free home instantly feels more spacious. Sarah (@HousevsSarah)'s D.I.Y. custom cabinet project turned a cluttered garage into an organised and stylish mud room to store many everyday items.

6. Opt for luxurious materials

Using quality fabrics like silk, velvet or linen can help elevate your home’s look and feel. Workshop member @littleladyirish's funky Clover lounge includes green velvet armchairs.

7. Upgrade lighting

Replace outdated indoor and outdoor light fixtures with modern, statement-making pieces to create ambience and a touch of style. Sandy (@sandy_d) repurposed wooden slats from old Venetian blinds to create a D.I.Y. pendant light fitting.
