How to repair cracked patio tiles?

Hello there,

I have some outside patio step tiles that have cracked and there is a hole in them too. How or what is the best/easiest way to fix these since I am not an expert on these matters?

Re: Outside patio tiles

Hi @gardenia8888,

Since the tiles have structural cracks and a hole, unfortunately, there’s no quick or effective way to repair them—replacement is the best option. The cracks indicate that the tiles are compromised and may continue to deteriorate over time, especially in an outdoor environment. If you're having trouble sourcing similar tiles, one idea could be to substitute them with other tiles and make a feature out of the top step, giving it a unique look. While you could consider filling and colouring the cracks for aesthetic purposes, this won’t address the structural damage. If you’re not experienced with tiling, it might be worth enlisting a professional tiler who could help you find matching tiles and install them properly.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Outside patio tiles

Thanks for your reply, Mitchell. Should have said earlier that we are renting, so I don't want to do anything major like replacement, so might leave it as it is.

ETA: The tiles were broken/cracked before we moved in.

Re: Outside patio tiles

Hi @gardenia8888,

Can the broken tiles be lifted up? Or are they still well attached to the surface beneath, they are just quite damaged?

If they can be lifted, you could tidy up the surface beneath with a scraper and a wire brush, then stick them back in place with tile adhesive

You could then fill the cracks with something like this No More Gaps Bricks and Mortar Gap Filler. The colour would not match perfectly, but it would be better than the large cracks and holes.

Let me know what you think.

Re: Outside patio tiles

Hi Jacob,

Thanks for your suggestions. I will check to see if they can be lifted or still well attached to the surface.

Will get back to you when I have done something to fix it.

TIA.
