How to stain my new treated pine deck?
Hi guys
We are just in the process of installing a treated pine deck. We have the decking stain purchased but are conflicted. We know to leave the general application for a few weeks - but - should we be applying it to the exposed cut ends of the timber? And if we open the giant tin of decking stain, will it be compromised if the rest then doesn’t get used for a few weeks? (Can you tell I’m new to this?!)

Re: Staining my bew treated pine deck
Hi @kelly81,
Thank you for your questions about staining your new treated pine deck.
Yes, you should stain the cut ends of the timber to protect against weathering.
If you open your tin to use a little bit now, just ensure the lid is put back on securely and it is stored out of the direct sun and you shouldn't have any issues. Use a Rubber Mallet to tap around the whole circumference of the stain's lid to ensure it is fully sealed.
Check out How To Stain A Deck for some further guidance.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
