How to fix wicker table frame?
Hi!!
Purchased a second hand wicker dining set for outdoors and part of the table frame came apart and was very brittle. So decided to take the whole thing apart by removing the wicker pieces from the table frame. Only to find out there are small nails on the table frame to keep wicker pieces in place. Now I have a table frame with pieces of nails sticking out (the U shape nails.)
Is there any way I can add some kind of covering or wrap to the frame that is durable and looks good? Rather than shave the nails down and paint?
would appreciate suggestions. Thank you!

Re: wicker table frame fix?
Hello @april101
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about your wicker table.
I suggest using Trojan 250mm Locking Pliers to hold onto the staples and using a small piece of wood as a levering spot to pull the staples out. The piece of wood will also serve as protection to your frame so that the pliers does not damage the surface. As an alternative cover, I suggest wrapping the frame in GRUNT 4mm x 30m Para Cord.
Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1 and @Nailbag for their recommendations.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: wicker table frame fix?
Thank you so much for the prompt advice Eric!! Will definitely try to remove the nails as per your suggestion.
I didn’t think of wrapping the table frame with a cord. This might work. Appreciate the help and advice 😊

Re: wicker table frame fix?
Hi @april101
I see @EricL has already provided great advice on how to remove the staples and love his idea on the cord as the new edge frame covering.
Being metal u-nails into a metal frame, if you can't pull them out, you may need to either use a hacksaw blade like this one to get a flush cut or an angle grinder with metal cutting disc. However you remove them, you should use a rust inhibiting spray paint over the entire top frame, as I can see exposed cracks in the original paintwork.
As an alternative wrapping, you could tree support webbing like this and die it to the colour of choice.

Re: wicker table frame fix?
Just another tool thought for the staple nails @april101
Pincers.
Pinch them at the base of the stems (not too tight) and roll the head. They won't put up a fight and the curved head won't damage the surface.
Cheers.

Re: wicker table frame fix?
Morning @april101
The pinchers that @Noyade has shown are the ones I wa sthinking of, He has explained it well. I have also used normal bull nosed pliers and a small piece of wood to stop indentations showing as I fold it over. Same process but harder. The Pincers work the best.
A note of caution using the parracord (its a good idea) it will start to distort the timber as you waind it around so you may need some extra bracks/supports to stop it pulling inwards.

Re: wicker table frame fix?
Thank you! Gonna give the pincers a go. Also if wrapping the cord or something similar to avoid distortion (it will be on a metal frame) can I wrap it loosely and add gorilla glue?

Re: wicker table frame fix?
Hi @april101,
@Nailbag was likely referencing this jute webbing. We've also got this Grunt 50mm x 10m Black Poly Webbing.
