How to fix a water tank tap leak?

Where the tap fitting screws into the plastic tank leaks. I've tried a number of things, emptied the tank and used plumbing tape, put silicone gooey stuff around the fitting. What next please.

Would it be possible for you to post a photo of the tap and the area of the tank where the tap screws on to? This will give our members a better idea of its condition. We can then offer you recommendations on how to repair it.
