Can you mount a BBQ on a Kaboodle kitchen benchtop?
Hello everyone,
Looking at installing a Kaboodle Kitchen in our alfresco, the area is undercover, under main roof.
In terms of BBQs been mounted on a Kaboodle Kitchen benchtop, is this doable?
We are looking at the Matador Edge 6 Built In BBQ with 1m cabinets either side, with stone benchtops.
Has anyone else do this? How did it go, and do you have a rough $$ you spent?
Thanks all for your help!!

Re: Can you mount a BBQ on a Kaboodle kitchen benchtop?
Afternoon @jads88
I was just going through the instructions for that Matador 6 burner BBQ
It looks like on page 23 there are instructions for legs on a solid surface. I remember years ago when I had ceaser stone installed in the kitchen they warned me not to put hot things on the bench as it could cause cracking. Not sure if that is still the suggestion but you could always have an offcut that the BBQ sits on that way if it carcks it wont crack your nice benchtop.
And just realised this may be your first post Id like to say Welcome to the community
Its a pretty good place to find out a whole bunch of info.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @jads88. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about mounting a BBQ on a benchtop.
It's certainly doable! Here's a great discussion with some relevant info: Outdoor Kaboodle kitchen by @RayaJane.
I've re-checked and confirmed that none of the Kaboodle benchtops are suitable to have a BBQ placed on top of them. You'd need to use either the caviar or liquorice coloured benchtops from Essential Stone, which are both natural stones; the rest of their range is reconstituted and not resistant to extreme heat.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Can you mount a BBQ on a Kaboodle kitchen benchtop?
Thank you for the reply Mitchell!
I thought we may have some challenges with this, especially as we want a light concrete colour stone, with white shaker style cabinet doors.
Might need to look down a different path for what cooktop to have!
Cheers!

Hello @Juliebronwync
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about sitting your BBQ on your benchtop. If it is to be placed on the benchtop temporarily while it's in operation, I suggest using a Brighton Masonry 400 x 400 x 40mm Charcoal Mypave Paver side by side, it has better heat resistance than stainless steel. The stainless steel once heated up will act like a branding iron and leave a burn mark on your oak benchtop.
If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Could I use an off cut of a stone bench top? Paver is kind of heavy and cumbersome

Or possibly some left over 600 x 300 tiles I have from my house build?

Re: Can you mount a BBQ on a Kaboodle kitchen benchtop?
Hello @Juliebronwync
If the benchtop off cut is big enough and thick enough (at least 20mm thick) then that would work as well. I'm afraid tiles are just not thick enough to provide protection.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
