What to do with unused hot air ducts?

Hi Team,

I had gas ducted heating in my house which I replaced with reverse cycle split system. Now that the ducts are of no use I don't know what to do with them, should I try to patch them or is it possible to get some use out of them or install something that looks good, eg, square light (eg Philips hue downlight, not sure though it anything comes that can fit here)that changes color (just throwing some ideas  )....

I measured the external measure of the duct cover is approx 28x28cm

The internal measure is 20.3x20.3cm

Below is a photograph for reference, I am open to all ideas and if keeping them like this is a better suggestion, welcome that as well

Thank you.

Re: What to do with hot air ducts?

Hi @PeteSam,

Thank you for your question about what to do with your now redundant air ducts.

It's a fairly large hole which you would struggle to find a light fitting to fill. I think the best option is to simply patch the hole. That way, if you decided later on to add a light, the electrician would just cut a new hole to the size you are after.

Have a look at my advice in What exhaust fan for 290mm square cut out for some guidance on how to patch the hole.

Let me know if you have further questions.

Jacob
