What privacy window film?

Hi All,

I have a room with a double-glazed glass window that is transparent. I am looking for a window film that provides daytime privacy and, if possible, night-time privacy as well. Since the windows are on the southwest side, UV rays are not a concern; my primary objective is privacy.

I do have curtain blinds, but I prefer not to keep them down all day. I am considering options such as one-way mirror film or tinted window film. Could you please advise on the best window film for my needs?

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,

Re: Help to Choose the Right Privacy Window Film

Hi @babu

There are window films that are reflective ( mirror like) and are good at privacy but only during the day in fact at night they are harder to see out of but easy to see into at night so window films may not suit your purpose best of all.

For your windows a nice set or plantation shutters on the inside of your window will give privacy and extra heat block out as a bonus.

For privacy motorised blinds or (hand drawn) is the best way for true privacy.

My house, but the cost is like $6000

I am still wanting to motorize about 8 small to big blinds and have it operated via google assistant and events so I can program them to open on a sunny winters morning and close   or not open on a hot summers' day.

Hope this helps other options available too in all the Curtain ranges.

Re: Help to Choose the Right Privacy Window Film

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @babu. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about window tint.

Some great advice from @Jewelleryrescue there.

There are a few different varieties of window film available in our stores:

  • Crystal- Has the highest transparency rate retaining external views. It blocks up to 99% Ultraviolet Rays, 90% of Infrared Heat and while allowing 72% Light flow

  • Tinted- Has a medium transparency rate and will allow partial external views. It blocks up to 98% Ultraviolet Rays, 56% Infrared Heat and 74% of the Light flow.

  • Mirror- Has the lowest transparency rate and will limit the external view. It blocks up to 98% Ultraviolet Rays, 89% Infrared Heat and 87% of the Light flow.

Privacy-wise, the mirror tint would be the best for blocking people's view. However, most tints, including the mirror, are susceptible to being backlit at night, which allows people outside to look in. I would always recommend that you draw your blinds at night.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
