Please advise best oil based polyurethane finish in matt/satin for tasmanian oak flooring trim, to match golden/yellow blackbutt flooring.
Will Cabot's CFP Floor clear, oil based (satin) give a light golden/yellow tone when applied?
No samples of stain on tasmanian oak in store to compare and find result I'm looking for.
I'm looking to gain a colour just like the Hanwood 2.4m Blackbutt Vinwrap Floating Floor Quad Trim in store (0227400) $12.80 (minus the grey/ash line that runs through this trim).
Please advise best product to achieve this shade on tasmanian oak.
Thank you,
Laura
Hello @Laura3T
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's fabulous to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about what coating to use on your Tasmanian oak.
Because Tasmanian Oak is a natural timber product, it's difficult to predict exactly how it will react to the Cabot's 1L Cabothane Clear Satin CFP Floor Polyurethane. Sometimes when timber gets wet it takes on a darker hue.
If you have some timber off cuts available to you, I propose bringing it to the the store and speaking to the paint specialist. Ask them if it's possible to test the Cabot's Cabothane Clear on your timber sample. This will give you a much better idea of what the finish will look like. As an alternative, I also suggest asking them if they can also test the Bondall 1L Satin Monocel Gold Marine Clear Timber Varnish.
However, because Cabothane Clear is oil based it will slowly develop a yellow golden hue.

Hi Eric,
Thank you so much for the tips.
I will definately visit another Bunnings store with a couple of wood samples to test.
I had asked the sales assistant in the Bunnings store I visited but she told me I would have to buy the oil. There were no samples available to test.
I think the stores should all have samples available. Would hate to spend so much money on product that isn't what I'm looking for. It's tricky like that with wood.
Cheers,
Laura
