Hi everyone!
I’d like some advice on how I can go about repairing this defect on a shelf in my wardrobe? Can I use exterior timber filler to fill in the defect, sand and then paint over it?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @phiaxs. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about repairing a cupboard.
If the shelf is part of an interior wardrobe, any standard timber filler should work well for repairing the defect. Begin by cleaning the damaged area to remove any loose material, dirt, or dust. Apply the timber filler using a putty knife, ensuring it is slightly overfilled to allow for sanding later. Once the filler has dried completely (following the manufacturer’s instructions), sand it down to achieve a smooth, flush finish with the rest of the shelf.
After sanding, you can paint over the repaired area to match the rest of the shelf. Use a primer and finish with a topcoat for durability. If the shelf is in a high-use area or might be exposed to moisture, you could opt for a slightly more robust filler like Builder's Bog, though this isn’t usually necessary.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
