I have picked up this sturdy table from my sister and want to “upcycle” it. A lighter colour stain on the table top and chair base and a lighter and less yellow cream colour where it is painter. So my question: what would you do? Use paint stripper for the table top and then remove and sand back, or just sand it back? Any advice appreciated!
Hi @jasmine4,
I vote for sanding every time - easy and a lot less mess.
Let me tag some experienced furniture upcyclers for their thoughts:

Hi @jasmine4 - I’m with Jason, I vote sanding every time! Perhaps I just haven’t found the right paint stripper but I tend to find them a little messy. You’d need to sand after stripping anyway so given it’s just a lacquer and not a dark paint or stain I think sanding with a course grit first, followed by a fine grit should do the job.
good luck!

Awesome! Thank you @kendallmac and @Jason
Will share along the way! Can’t wait to get stuck into it this weekend
