How to remove hollow wall anchors from ceiling?

How to remove these wall anchors. Previously oyster lights were installed which has been replaced by fans now. But these ugly anchor bolts are left behind. Can someone suggest a safe removal of these without damaging the ceiling much.

Re: how to remove hollow wall anchors from ceiling?

Hi @newbie25,

Removing them might do a small amount of damage to the surrounding plaster. However, that would be fixed anyway when you fill the holes and sand the filler back. You'll need a pair of long nose pliers to grip the exposed rim of the anchor. You might find placing one of the jaws in the anchor hole and the other on the edge of the rim to be the best method. You can then twist, wiggle and pull the fixing out. If you are having trouble gripping the anchor, you could slip a flathead screwdriver under the rim and gently lever it out enough to get a grip with the pliers.

Once you have the fixing out, you can fill the hole with Selleys 180g Spakfilla Rapid Gap Filler. After it has dried, sand it back with 120-grit sandpaper and do an additional thin skim coat with the filler. A light sanding is done to finish. You'll then be able to paint over the area.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
