Hi all, looking for any and all suggestions on how to turn this upstairs landing space/family room into a bedroom. It is currently a totally open space and we’d love some ideas on how to use partitions and doors to make it a comfortable bedroom! We will not be in the house long enough to invest in too many major renovations, we are looking for an affordable, year long solution please🙌🏻
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @katiekate. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about partitioning a room.
To transform your open space into a bedroom affordably and with minimal effort, consider installing an expanding curtain line with lightweight curtains. For more privacy, you could add a curtain rail attached to the roof and thick curtains. With the wide variety of curtain options available, this quick and cost-effective solution can be tailored to your style.
Alternatively, freestanding room dividers are another great option. These come in various designs and materials, providing both flexibility and ease of installation without any need for drilling or permanent fixtures. You could also use these in combination with bookshelves.
Consider building a temporary partition wall if you want a more robust solution. This option involves more work but offers greater privacy and a more solid, permanent feel, making it ideal for longer-term solutions. When it's time to remove it, the wall can be dismantled relatively easily. This approach allows you to create a comfortable and private bedroom space without permanently changing your home. However, given the effort required, you might like to consider whether a permanent additional bedroom might be something that would increase the value of your home.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
