Hi everyone!
I’ve recently moved into a rental studio and I wanted to install some drawers under my desk. I’ve purchased one from IKEA but the overhang of the desk prevents me from installing it.
Any ideas?
Hi @izzysedg,
Adding drawers to a desk that isn’t designed for them can be tricky, especially if the overhang is in the way. At a minimum, you’d need to install timber supports beneath the desk to create a surface for the drawer slides to attach to. This would effectively build a small mounting frame under the desk. You could likely still install the drawer you have, but you might need to make some adjustments—potentially trimming or repositioning parts of the drawer unit to fit within the space. I've created a rendering below to illustrate.
An alternative to modifying the desk could be using a freestanding drawer unit that sits under the desk instead.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
