How to fix wardrobe loose top door track?

Hi everyone,

My top wardrobe sliding door track has come lose, every single screw has come out. The doors themselves are holding the track in place but I have to 'poke' it up to move the doors as they hit the screws.

I have been looking at the 'how to add sliding doors video' which seems straight forward, and assume that these are my options?

1 - redrill new holes in the track, maybe use longer screws, maybe add drywall plugs?

2 - try and putty the existing holes, add drywall plugs and re-screw the screws in (maybe add a line of gorilla glue or something too?)

My issue is I have no tools, no drill, no ladders - just basic tools e.g. screwdriver and a footstool.

So do you think #2 will solve or is it just a temp fix?

And do I now need to buy a drill and ladders ... in order to do #1

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: How to fix wardrobe loose top door track?

Hello @ClareNoDrill

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about your loose wardrobe track.

It appears that all the screws have come loose in your top track. Before you attempt to remove your glass door panels, please be aware that working with glass is very dangerous. An accidental hit with a tool or too much force is applied could shatter the glass and cause injury. So please make sure you are wearing personal protection such as gloves, goggles and appropriate clothing. Make sure to have an extra pair of hands to lift your wardrobe doors.

Generally speaking, the doors must be removed so that you can fix the top rail properly. Once the rail is off look for the mounting points in your ceiling and gently poke it with your Philips screwdriver. The purpose of this is to make the hole bigger so that you can slide the Universal Ramset plugs into the ceiling. If the hole is too small simply twist the screwdriver in a circular motion to make the hole bigger. The plug must fit all the way in and not stick out.

Once all the holes have plugs in them, re-install the rail using the screws that were provided in the Ramset Universal set. Use your Philips screwdriver to fully anchor the rail to the ceiling. If you can borrow a drill from a family member the repair job will go much faster. Once you have secured all the screws get your extra pair of hands to lift the wardrobe door back into place.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Eric
