I have to purchase a number of ceiling fans before my sparkie returns from his holiday. He starts here the day after he returns in 10days and is presently uncontactable.
My ceilings are raked to about 4 degrees. To keep within building regs I need to keep the fans as close to the ceiling as is possible. My question probably sounds daft but do these fans have adjustable rods that can be shortened?
Are there any that are more suitable to be closer to the ceiling?
Many thanks in anticipation.👷
Hi @ironbark
You have an interesting situation there.
Ceiling fans can have purchasable adjustment rods but normally to make them longer not shorter I could be wrong shorter maybe avaliable talk to your fan supplier. Ceiling fans warehouse is a specialist in this area and at lease help you with knowledge on rod lengths etc.
The type of fan you need is Low profile ceiling fans, also known as hugger or flush-mount fans of approx 150mm to 300mm drop from ceiling to fan blade. To date I havnt seen any that at the same time will suit a raked ceiling I personally dont consider 3 degrees raked by this may effect fan operation and balance if the fan dose not have a compensating angle gymble. A block of 3 degree wooden wedge could make the fan mount horizontal /flat again to take almost any fans.
Shortening the fan rod is possible if you can reengineer to metal rods.
Well if you can cut metal tube and re drill holes in metal tube as well as look after the wires going down the centre of the tube to the fan and or light then a electrical trades person most likely shorten them for you.
Another possibiliy is an industrial type fan mounted on the wall blowing across the room creating a air current. But I know know the room you are working with.
Steal my idea I have a single 92" fan in a room 9meters long it dosnt spin fast but the single fan in the centre and it moves all the air nicly the alternat was 3 fans same area
Hi @ironbark,
Could you tell our helpful members a little more about your situation? I'm a little confused about how the four degrees come into play, as the fan will be sitting level regardless of the slight slope. Are your ceiling heights too low for a standard fan installation? You might like to check out a low-profile ceiling fan like the Arlec 120cm White Matte Hugger 4 Blade AC Ceiling Fan With LED Light. Its blades are positioned 17cm from the ceiling. How far are your current fan blades from the ceiling, and how close would they need to be positioned to comply?
