Hello Im very new to DIY and renovating I just had a quick question on how hard it would be to change my suspended ceilings into something like a timber roof something along the lines of the picture I added in. And if so what would be the best steps to do it 🙂 thank you !

Re: How to change suspended ceiling into timber?
Hi @coreyw,
Sorry for the slow reply. I'm sure our resident Bunnings D.I.Y. experts will be happy to assist as soon as possible.
In the meantime, could you please tell us what previous D.I.Y. experience you have had? That might help make it a little easier for them to provide a recommendation on the feasibility of this project.
All the best,
Jason

Re: How to change suspended ceiling into timber?
Hello @coreyw
My apologies for the late reply. If you are thinking about transforming the look of your ceiling, I suggest using QuickBoard™ 250 x 7.5mm 4.8m Ceiling Lining Board Cedar Composite VJ - 10 Pack - Cedar. It's pre-finished meaning no oiling, painting or staining required. It's quick and easy to install and there is no need for speciality tools or equipment. It's durable and will not rot, plus, it's also insect resistant.
Here is a link to the PermaTimber Brochure: PermaTimber QuickBoard Installation
The only thing that I see that needs to be removed are the timber cover strips covering the panel joins. But other than that, nothing needs to be modified.
If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Re: How to change suspended ceiling into timber?
That's great to hear @coreyw.
You might also like to consider Pine lining boards as they are lightweight and easy to install even with a novice level of D.I.Y. ability.
Please keep us updated and reach out if you have further questions.

Hey Mitchell sorry about the late reply, but these pine lining boards how will i go attaching them to the roof as the ceiling in the picture above is like a unsure how to explained but similar to a school roof where is just like a light metal frame with those panels in the middle.

Re: How to change suspended ceiling into timber?
That's typically called a dropped ceiling, @coreyw. It's a false ceiling suspended from the structural timbers. Unfortunately, that means your light metal frame is likely not designed to support additional weight, and it would also be very hard to affix lining boards to it.
Some further exploratory work would need to be done to determine whether your idea is feasible. You might need to entirely remove the dropped ceiling and install structural timbers.

Re: How to change suspended ceiling into timber?
Hello @coreyw
The Prempanel 2700 x 600 x 21mm Oak Timber Acoustic Panel is 11kg and by the time you attach 10 panels, the combined weight will be at 110kg. Unfortunately, the suspended ceiling is probably not rated to carry that much weight as the panels used are often very lightweight.
If you get a chance to lift one of the ceiling panels, you'll notice that the frame is suspended by wires or thin flat plates. I suggest following Mitchell's advice and doing more exploratory work to determine if you need to change the assembly to a timber frame.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
