How to paint Como tallboy?

Hi!

I bought this white Como tall boy with plans to put it inside my built in wardrobe, because it only has a hanging rail.

The tallboy ended up being too wide, and the sliding wardrobe doors don’t open far enough to allow the drawers to open.

I’m going to have to put them elsewhere in my bedroom but I’d like to paint them black to match my other furniture. I think they’re made of particleboard. I was wondering which grit sandpaper I’d need to use, which primer, and which type of paint would be best for this?

Thanks!

Re: Como tallboy make over

Hi @Ash_,

Thank you for your question about painting your tallboy.

The process is relatively simple and follows the steps you've mentioned; sand, prime and then paint.

You can lightly sand the surface using 80 Grit Sandpaper. The goal is to scuff the surface, so your primer sticks to the surface better, so don't go overboard. After sanding brush your furniture down to remove any dust or residue that has been left over.

I'd then suggest using a coat of Dulux PRECISION White Maximum Strength Adhesion Primer to get the surface ready for your paint. Ensure you allow the primer to dry for an hour before moving on to your paint.

You can then use 2 coats of any interior paint in the colour and finish of your choosing. Make sure you read the manufacturer's recommendations on the packaging, paying close attention to the recoat time.

Another option that you might like to explore is the Porters Revive range of paints. If you choose to use these, follow the same process of sanding but use Porter's Prepare And Prime to prime the surface as these products have been designed to work well together.

You might like to check out Revive Your Furniture With Porter’s Paints to see it in action.

Let me know what you think and if you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask.

No worries @Ash_,

Don't forget to upload the photos once you're done, it would be brilliant to see what your finished project looks like.
