Hi,
I'm about to do a tile backsplash on our kitchen. Part of the area that will be tiled over is a melamine board wall, which was part of a corner cabinet that we remove. The area within the red box below is where we want to tile. Can I tile straight on top of the melamine board wall or do I have to cut that part of the board out?
Thank you.
Hello @wellz
You can either cut and remove that melamine wall in order to expose the original plasterboard or glue and screw a tile underlay sheet over the melamine board.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Thanks @EricL! Tile underlay sheet is probably the easier option. Can you provide a link to a suitable product?
Also how do I cut it to size as well as cutting a hole for the power point?
Hi @wellz,
You can use Villaboard to line that wall before tiling. It's similar to tile underlay and can be cut with a score and snap knife. You could cut out the powerpoint opening with the knife as well, or a multi tool would be another tool you can use.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
