Is it safe to use a Specrite Golden Teak Acacia Multi Use Panel as a chopping board?

Hi Bunnings community,

I wanted to get some confirmation whether the other Specrite boards are food safe?

I'm interested in using the Specrite 1200 x 405 x 18mm Golden Teak Acacia Multi Use Panel

From this thread, the SpecRite FJ Glulam Spotted Gum panels was not food safe and this thread, another community person did make the cutting boards from the SpecRite FJ Glulam panel.

Thank you,

Seldy

Hi @seldy

Thanks for sharing your question about the Specrite 1200 x 405 x 18mm Golden Teak Acacia Multi Use Panel. Please allow me to double check with our suppliers regarding its suitability as a chopping board. As soon as I have more information regarding the panel, I'll get back to you.

Re: Is it safe to use a Specrite Golden Teak Acacia Multi Use Panel as a chopping board?

Hi @seldy,

The Specrite 1200 x 405 x 18mm Golden Teak Acacia Multi Use Panel does not come with a food-safe coating on it as it is a multi-use panel. However, I've had a response from the supplier stating that the panel can be sanded back to bare timber and a food-safe oil such as Feast Watson 250ml Kitchen Timber Oil applied to it.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell

Hi @MitchellMc @EricL

Thank you for following up with the supplier and confirming the details!

I'll go ahead and sand back the original coat then apply a food grade mineral oil.

@Noyade semi good news
