How to repair inside kitchen cabinet?
Hi!
we recently moved into our house and have spent the last few months fixing bits and pieces - but this one has me stumped!
in our kitchen we have an older style corner base cabinet. On the lower shelf, right in the very back corner, someone at sometime has cut a large hole in the cabinet back, and through the plaster to expose the brick behind. Weird. It’s not small - about 20cm wide on each side of the corner, and nearly the height of the entire shelf space. Aside from ‘why??’ I am hoping this great community can help me figure out how to repair it! If it was on a straight bit, cool… but inside a corner? And its a very hard corner to reach into!

Re: How to repair inside kitchen cabinet
Hi @amyb,
A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
We can certainly help with that, but we would need to be able to see it to give you great advice. Can I trouble you to upload some photos of what you are dealing with?
Let me know if you need a hand uploading images. I'm happy to help if required.
Are the cabinets made of melamine?
Is there space behind the cabinet that you could slip some timber strips into?
If so, then you may be able to slip some timber blocking in behind the gap, screw through the cabinet into the blocking to lock it in place, then attach melamine to those timber blocks to cover the gap.
If there were no cavity behind the cabinet, then we would have to get a bit more creative, and I would need to see what we are working with to come up with a plan.
Let me know what you think.
Jacob
