When we moved in, the kitchen was empty - no sink, no fridge, no storage - and (gasp) carpeted! We are big into upcycling and decided to see if we could make ourselves a functional kitchen on a budget and saving materials from the landfill. It started with 48 hours of scrapping carpet and tar off the floor, with lots of sanding, painting and trips to Bunnings. We are very happy with the end result! It is not only functional but looks great, and we are very proud of how it turned out. The counter top on the far wall, door knobs, building materials (nails, lots of no more gaps, paint, etc.), and some tools were all sourced from Bunnings. The main kitchen bench and kitchen island were built from recycled palette wood. The overhead cabinets, pantry, stools, kitchen sink and coffee station were all sourced freely from family or facebook marketplace and upcycled.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @cdkuempel. We're really pleased to have you join us and sharing your renovation adventures. It sounds like you inherited a big challenge and have tackled it admirably. A kitchen with carpet and no sink or storage is certainly strange! What were some of the biggest lessons you learned along the way?
We trust that you'll get plenty of helpful advice as well as ideas and inspiration for future projects around the house and garden from our wonderful community. We have clever and creative types sharing projects and advice on the site every day. We look forward to you joining in all the discussions across the site. Please let me know if you ever need a hand getting the most from Workshop.
