A broom holder is a great way to store and organise brooms, mops and other cleaning tools.
Here is a guide to building a broom holder and mounting it on a wall. Inspiration for this project comes from Bunnings Workshop community member Nham who built this this popular broom holder.
As this project involves power tools, please follow all safety guidelines provided by manufacturers and use the recommended protective gear, including safety glasses and gloves.
Steps
Step 1
Cut the timber.
This broom holder is 50mm tall, 45mm deep and 1m wide. It is designed to hold seven cleaning tools. You can adjust its size according to your needs.
Place the timber on a flat surface and use the hand saw to cut it into a 1m length.
Now place the length horizontally with the 70mm face up. Measure and mark a point 50mm away from the bottom edge. Draw a straight horizontal line across the point. Use a hand saw to cut along this line.
Step 2
Mark points for the broom holder hooks.
Mark a point approximately 110mm away from the left edge of the timber length using a pencil and tape measure. Proceed to mark six additional points at intervals of 130mm from the first mark.
Now use a combination square to draw a straight vertical line across each of the points. You should have seven lines in total.
Step 3
Drill pilot holes for the broom holder hooks.
Position a broom holder hook at the centre of the first vertical line across the timber length. Mark this point. Repeat this process for the remaining six lines.
Use your cordless drill to drill pilot holes at all seven points. Don’t forget to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) while drilling, including safety glasses and gloves.
Step 4
Drill mounting holes on the timber length.
Position the length on your wall. If mounting on a brick wall, ensure the length is positioned beneath the mortar line. Mark two points 50mm away from both the left and right edges of the length. These are points for your mounting holes.
Use your cordless drill to drill pilot holes at these points.
Now sand and paint the length. Wait for the paint to dry before proceeding.
Step 5
Drill into the wall.
Insert a 3mm drill bit in your cordless drill. Place the timber against the wall and drill into the timber’s right mounting hole, marking the wall’s surface. Do not drill into the wall at this stage. Remove the timber length.
Now drill a hole into the marked wall. Those drilling into a brick wall should use a 3mm masonry drill bit.
Once drilled, switch to an 8mm drill bit and drill again to make the hole bigger. Use an 8mm masonry drill bit for brick walls.
Step 6
Mount the timber length on the wall.
Take a wall mounting plug and position it in the hole on the brick's surface. Gently tap the plug into place using a hammer until it's level with the wall.
Now place the timber length against the wall. Align the length’s right mounting hole with the plug. Insert a 100mm screw into the hole and secure in place.
Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the left mounting hole. Your length should now be securely mounted onto the wall.
Step 7
Install the broom holder hooks.
Secure the broom holder hooks them in place using the provided screws. Slide your cleaning tools in the hooks.
You have now successfully built and wall-mounted a broom holder.

- Screws, like Zenith 10G x 100mm Countersunk Rib Head External Timber Screws - 8 Pack
- Paint.
