Re: recover Kikuyu grass
Hello @sau1
To recover your Kikuyu grass in the area where the garden bed was removed, start by levelling the soil and removing any leftover mulch, roots, or debris. Rake the surface to loosen compacted soil and create a fine texture for better seed contact. Use a Kikuyu lawn seed, such as the Munns Professional Kikuyu Grass Seed available at Bunnings and spread it evenly over the bare areas. Lightly cover the seeds with a thin layer of lawn top dressing or soil to protect them while allowing light to penetrate. Water the area gently but thoroughly immediately after sowing and then daily to keep the soil consistently moist until the seeds germinate, which usually takes 7–21 days.
For the spots where no grass is growing and the soil is visible, check for compaction or poor soil conditions. If the soil is hard, aerate the area using a garden fork or aerator to improve water and nutrient penetration. Apply a slow-release lawn fertilizer, such as Scotts Lawn Builder Kikuyu Lawn Fertilizer, to encourage growth. Resow any completely bare patches with the Kikuyu seed, and again, water consistently.
For quicker results, you could also lay Kikuyu turf rolls, like Sir Walter DNA Certified Kikuyu Turf, to match the rest of your lawn. Ensure regular watering and avoid mowing until the grass establishes well in these areas.
