This weed has almost completely taken over our whole yard, at least 1-2 acres out of 5. Is there any kind of selective spray which won’t kill off the grass?
Hello @Scougydo
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about removing beggarweed.
Controlling beggarweed in your lawn requires a selective herbicide that targets broadleaf weeds without harming your grass. While specific products labelled exclusively for beggarweed may not be readily available at the store, several broadleaf herbicides can effectively manage this weed.
For selective herbicides available at Bunnings, Nufarm Kamba M Selective Herbicide is a good option, as it targets broadleaf weeds like beggarweed without affecting most grasses. Another choice is David Grays Crab Grass and Clover Killer, which also works on broadleaf weeds, though spot spraying is recommended for Buffalo and Kikuyu lawns.
Regular mowing can help weaken beggarweed over time, but it won’t eliminate it completely. Hand-pulling is most effective before the weed goes to seed, ensuring the root system is fully removed.
A healthy lawn is the best long-term defence.
Fertilising, aerating, and overseeding patchy areas will help your grass outcompete weeds naturally. Persistence is key, one treatment might not be enough, so follow up with additional herbicide applications as needed and maintain good lawn care practices.
Please remember to wear personal protection such as appropriate clothing, gloves, goggles and a paint rated mask. Please make sure to follow all the safety guidelines printed at the back of the container and keep your children and pets away while from the area while spraying.
