Struggling standard lily pillies in pots

I have two Lily pilly cherry blossom standards.  I recently moved them to pots, however the pots don’t have drainage.  They are looking a bit sick without much new growth, what can I do to help them?

Re: Struggling standard lily pillies in pots

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @kelly7. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about Lily pilly care.

They might not be looking their best due to the stress from the transplant. With time, they'll recover from that, but you might like to apply some Seasol to help speed up the process.

Having no drainage holes in the pots needs to be resolved relatively quickly. As a general rule, all pots that are outside need to have drainage holes, as they'll quickly become mini ponds after a few rainfalls. Once the roots start sitting in water at the bottom of the pot the plants will go downhill quickly.

I would suggest acquiring some help and tipping the plants over, exposing the base of the pots. Drill through the bottom with several 12mm holes in each pot. These pots are likely a fibreglass composite, so it's important to wear gloves, safety eyewear, and a mask while drilling into them.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
