I have a little roof over my pool pump that has sharp and rusty metal right at head height, and I'd like to put some kind of protection over it. Due to the shape of I'm not sure what would work. So far my best idea has been to drill something onto the metal frame.
Does anyone else have ideas?
Thanks.
Hi @ALimestoneWall,
My first thought was to use some K-Flex Elastomeric Pipe Insulation to protect the edge. Make a slice down the length of the insulation and slip it over the edge of the awning. You could then use some 50mm Roofing Tek Screws down through the foam, through the top of the ridge in the roofing material and into the frame. You would need to confirm this screw length will work, but this should allow the water to flow down the valleys of the roofing into the foam.
You can then stick the bottom edge of the foam to the frame with Clear Roof & Gutter Silicone. This will also seal the foam and stop water flowing back out of the foam.
You would then need to drill some holes in the foam to allow water to escape.
This would be a relatively simple solution to the issue that is soft and would protect your head from the metal.
Allow me to tag @Nailbag, @DIYGnome and @Dave-1 to see if they have any ideas.
Let me know what you think.

Good evening @ALimestoneWall
Looking at the roof I would be tempted to raise it so the bottommost part will be in line with the top of your wall and put a slope on the new tin that slope from the board below your gutter. I would also install a gutter on the new awning to take the water away instead of just running off.
Two timber triangles (the base length the same as your existing roof) The right angle up to the eaves and the slope the difference between the two. With some slats across the slope would work well in supporting the sloped roof. It would lift it high enough to take it out of "head high" beware zone

I would be inclined to use a wire brush on the rusted sections and then give it a spray with a rust guard spray-paint. Then screw an oil protected length of 90mm Merbau decking board either to just the front edge or for a better finish, down both sides. basically frame the roof off.
