How to treat new turf going brown?

Looking for some help. We had turf laid in December and it’s started to turn brown in patches.

tried some liquid fertiliser and also wetting spray but not sure it helped.

Any suggestions?

Re: New turf going brown

Hi @Rebecca21,

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, and thank you for your question.

The brown you see on your lawn is thatch. It is essentially dead leaves that sit just below the canopy of the living green grass.

I'd suggest you have a look through How To Dethatch Your Lawn for some guidance on how to deal with it.

Once you have dethatched your lawn, you might also like to check out How To Aerate And Top Dress Your Lawn. Aerating and top dressing will encourage good drainage and strong root health, it will help to level any low spots in your lawn and promote overall good health for your lawn.

You should also check out A Seasonal Guide To Lawn Care for some further guidance.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Jacob

Hi @Rebecca21

it  can't hurt to add a lawn grub treatment just in case they are chewing on your roots causing the patches.
