Making space for espaliered fig using trellis

I had one more fig tree to plant, and I really wanted to espalier it, but had no more garden space to put it. It needed a north facing wall, protected from wind. But then, I had a north facing wall on a porch. How to use this space?

I obtained the lattice trellis sheets from Bunnings, and constructed two planter boxes out of 250mm rough sawn, lined them with weed mat, and attached the trellis support uprights in each. The weight of soil in the planter boxes was more than adequate to hold it all together.

So, I ended up with an espaliered fig, two planter boxes for flowers.

All Bunnings stock... except the fig.

Re: Making space

Well, that worked out perfectly, didn't it @raymondo! I'll admit I wasn't too familiar with what the purpose of an espaliered fig would be, but after a Google search, I can now see why you'd like one. They look fantastic, and I'm sure they are great at fruiting times.

Many thanks for sharing, and I look forward to your next project.
