Re: Cabuya (Green-Aloe) plant has black spots on it

Hello @zillah

Your Cabuya (likely an Agave or Yucca) appears to have a form of scale insect infestation, which is causing the black spots and damage on the leaves. Scale insects attach themselves to the plant and suck its sap, weakening it over time.

To treat it using Bunnings products, you can use a horticultural oil like Pest Oil or White Oil, which will smother the scale insects. Apply it in the morning or late afternoon to avoid burning the leaves in direct sunlight. Another option is to use OCP 100ml Eco-Neem Concentrate for a more natural approach.

Before applying any treatment, gently scrub off the visible scale with a soft brush or a damp cloth. Also, check under the leaves and along the base of the plant for any hidden pests. Keeping the plant healthy with occasional feeding using a slow-release fertiliser suitable for succulents or cacti will help it recover faster.

Please make sure to wear personal protection such as gloves, goggles and a mask when spraying your plants.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
