How to stop dogs from entering raised garden bed?

Hi Guys

After some suggestions in Stopping our 2 Dogs from laying in a Raised garden Bed and Squashing our Plants.

Garden bed is only roughly 3m x 1m x 0.5m

Re: How to Stop Dogs from laying in Raised Garden Bed

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @LEFTY63. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about preventing your dogs from entering a raised garden bed.

To stop your dogs from laying in your raised garden bed, I'd recommend adding chicken wire around the perimetre. By adding stakes at the four corners and in the middle of the bed, and then wrapping chicken wire around it, you’ll create a physical barrier that’s tall enough to discourage your dogs from jumping in. A height of about 60cm is generally sufficient, but if your dogs are particularly jumpy, you might want to go a bit taller.

If you’re planning to grow veggies or other plants in the bed, you can also consider draping bird netting over the structure. Bird netting is lightweight and flexible, which means it won’t interfere with plant growth but will still deter dogs from jumping in. It can also help protect your plants from any critters like birds or small animals that might target them once your dogs are kept out.

Another option to consider is adding some natural deterrents around the garden bed. Dogs often dislike certain scents, so you could try sprinkling ground black pepper, citrus peels, or a pet-safe repellent around the edges of the garden. This won't be a foolproof method on its own, but it can add an extra layer of deterrence.

If they don't have an alternative bed in a cool location to lay in, perhaps you might like to consider building one and checking out this article on Dog kennels and beds for some inspiration.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
