How to repurpose bed frame to a raised garden bed?
Hi,
I'm trying to repurpose an old queen bed base into a raised garden bed, is this possible with this type of wood? If so, how do I cover the sides without adding more wood? I'm not good at carpentry nor have ever tried, so nailing stuff in I'm not confident about.
I also don't have the tools, and I'm not an expert. Also, their are upholstery staples that ive been yrying to remove, how can i do this if I have cut them to remove the fabric? Please help, so many issues

Re: Repurpose bed frame to a raised garden bed
Hi @beginnergarden,
A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question.
As a starting point, removing the staples can be done with these Trojan Mini End Cutting Pliers.
Unfortunately, it is unlikely that your bed base would be suitable for this purpose. Timber that is in direct contact with soil needs to be treated to H4 standard to resist rotting from the constantly moist environment. It is extremely unlikely that your bed base would be treated to this standard.
I like the idea of repurposing the bed frame, though; we may just have to be a bit more creative in what we do with it.
If you have some photos of the bed frame, this will certainly help our members come up with some ideas. Would you be able to upload some photos? I'd be happy to assist if you need help doing this.
I'd love to help you repurpose your bed frame, so please don't get disheartened. Once we can see what we're working with, I'm sure we can come up with something great.

Re: Repurpose bed frame to a raised garden bed
Hi JacobZ and thank you for the warm welcome.
I have saved the pliers to my shopping list for my project.
This is what I have got it down too after removing all the upholstery fabric.
Of course I am open to ideas on a different project for this.
Thank you and good day

Re: Repurpose bed frame to a raised garden bed
Hello @beginnergarden
I propose having a look at these discussions:
- How to build a tiered plant stand
- Pot plant stands by @JoeAzza
- D.I.Y. plant stand by @oheyitsbeano
- Pallet timber plant stand by @Imenz
- Tiered plant stand by @JI
- Pot plant shelving stand by @LePallet
If you have plants around the house, you can use the timber to build a plant stand. There are other projects that you can tackle that will only require basic tools such as a hand saw, drill, tape measure and a ruler. Give these simple projects a go, you might be surprised to discover a DIY side of yourself you never knew you had!
If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
Eric
