The wall measures as follows:-

Height 2 metres, length 7 metres and the planting area tapers from 70centimetres down to 30 centimetres

Any advice will be most welcome.

Many thanks Celt

Re: How do i choose the most suitable plants and bushes for a wall which will be in full sun.

Hello @celt

Thanks for sharing your question about what plants to use for your wall.

Choosing plants for a wall in full sun, especially one next to masonry, requires careful consideration of heat tolerance and sunlight needs. Masonry walls can intensify heat by reflecting sunlight, so it's essential to select hardy plants that thrive in such conditions.

Start by looking for drought-tolerant natives or Mediterranean-style plants, as they are well-suited to sunny, hot conditions. Plants like lavender, rosemary, and dwarf olives are excellent choices, as they handle heat well and provide a beautiful, structured look. For native options, consider grevilleas, bottlebrushes, or saltbush, which are tough and also attract birds and pollinators. If you're after something more decorative, succulents like agaves or aloes are fantastic as they require minimal water and look striking against masonry.

To narrow down your choices, think about the desired height and spread of the plants. If you want a dense screen or hedge, compact varieties of lilly pilly or westringia are great picks. For ground cover near the base of the wall, try creeping natives like myoporum or native daisies.

Before planting, prepare the soil with a good-quality mix like Richgro Native Garden Mix or another option suited to your plant selection. Adding mulch around the plants will help retain moisture and regulate soil temperature. Keep in mind that plants close to a masonry wall may dry out faster, so regular watering during establishment is crucial, even for drought-tolerant varieties.

Lastly, visit your local store and consult the garden specialist who can provide specific recommendations for plants that thrive in your local conditions and complement your garden style.

Re: How do i choose the most suitable plants and bushes for a wall which will be in full sun.

Good afternoon @celt Gee that’s a tricky one because it’s full sun and the heat reflects off the wall and also the pavers as well. Such a very narrow spot. Eric has given great advice. Good luck with it.
