Hi looking at laying artificial turf in backyard. My soil look well compacted, can I directly lay artificial turf in soil/mud without using launder of gravel sand? Will mud come out during rain if I do so??
Hello @zyoti30506
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about artificial turf.
The purpose of the sand and gravel is to facilitate water drainage and to keep the artificial turf level underfoot. Mud on the other hand tends to keep water and it will flow through the weave of the artificial turf. The mud will stay on top of the turf and make it look dirty. Sand on the other hand will fall back to the ground under the weave of the artificial turf. I don't advise laying artificial turf directly over soil.
Here is a handy step-by-step guide: How to lay synthetic turf
