Hi everyone,
I'm looking to convert a shed into a livable granny flat and need assistance with the project. Can anyone recommend a professional or company that specializes in such conversions? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
Hello @Wanderer welcome to the Workshop Community 🖐
Sheds are classed as non-habitable buildings so bringing a modified building up to Local Council building regulations might be a little bit of process, as for a Suitable Tradesperson... a Licensed Builder would be the best place to start OR a local Shed Installation Company.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Wanderer. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about creating a habitable space.
As @DIYGnome has mentioned, turning a shed into a habitable space requires significant alterations. Alterations might include installing a toilet, shower or bath, wash basin, kitchen sink and facilities for the preparation and cooking of food, laundry tub, and space for a washing machine. A concrete slab with a required membrane, minimum ceiling height of 2400mm, glazed area of windows to be a minimum of 10% of the floor, and a Basix certificate are also requirements.
In many scenarios, it would be a more cost-effective option to build a new dwelling that fully complies with the Building Code of Australia than trying to convert a shed to a habitable space. If you are considering the conversion it is important to seek professional advice and speak with your local council before you start.
Further to the suggestions above you might like to enlist the services of a professional through sites such as hipages and Airtasker.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
