This striking triangular table looks as though it's floating in mid-air.
I think floating tables look super-cool so I thought I would have a go at making one for the backyard. It stands 70cm tall and 60cm across. It was a fun build.
I used Merbau decking boards, 3mm stainless steel wire rope, wire eye straps, rope thimbles and chrome-plated copper swages. I used 5mm clear acrylic for the top.
I used biscuit joints on the bottom of the support arms to add strength, and pocket joints to make the triangle top and bottom pieces.
I used a turnbuckle tensioner in the middle to start, just to get the right distance and tension. Then I made the middle wire piece to length and used the wire eye strap to help put the tension on by not having the lower screw of the wire eye strap fully done up then rotating it to put the tension on. I also used the front wire to help with the tension in the same way.
