This stunning renovation turned an awkward, dated space into a practical farmhouse-style mudroom and laundry with plenty of storage.
Faced with an awkward space with a linen cupboard and a vanity stuck in the 2000s, we decided to gut the whole room and create an elegant new mud room with a combined laundry bench and sink.
The old linen cupboard was a funny shape and took up a lot of room.
Old linen cupboard removed.
The old vanity and wash area.
Using Porter's Paints Squid Ink and Taubmans Crisp White as our colour palette, we repurposed an old coffee table as our bench seat by cutting it down the middle and joining it together as our main feature of the room.
We then combined VJ Paneling along the seat area and an old dining hutch top to create the storage space above the seat.
Each of our children get a shoe box and a bag hook.
Wainscotting panels made out of dressed pine lengths are a feature along the walls, which ties in nicely with the room's classical feel. A thin profile of architrave pine makes a belt rail around the whole room to separate the colours.
The new vanity can now fit a washing machine and dryer underneath. Not only do we now have ample storage for hats, bags and other items, we can also use the room as a laundry and a feature of our home!
Farmhouse-style mud rooms make attractive, practical spaces for removing and storing dirty boots and shoes as well as coats, hats and other items.

Glowup is an understatement, this project is awesome @marisamoloney. I love the contrast between the Squid Ink & the drawers/shelves, well done!
