This gorgeous kids bed helps bring a touch of magic to bedtime.
My wife asked me to make a king-size bed for our baby girl/toddler, so I thought I'd build her a house-shaped bed.
The idea was to have like an open side canopy. We included side rails that can be removed later.
I did all the cuts by hand, not power tool (I love my handsaw and chisels over power). It all fits well, considering. The whole thing is structurally tough, though the front part has a slight wobble (I have an idea why).
The mattress sits on the floor and the frame goes around it. If this were to have the mattress sit off the floor the only changes to it would be having a brace fitted to the inside base frame and having slats sit on that brace with slats resting on it.
For paint I used British Paints sample pots in no-sheen white. We got two pots for $18 and it gives the wood that rough texture with the grain still present
