Creating a modern yet homely feel was the top priority for this kitchen renovation, which included installing a window-like panel to enliven the space.
My goal was to create a homely kitchen – not too modern as I don't find modern kitchens homely, but with modern appliances, including a dishwasher and stainless steel rangehood.
I replaced the cabinet doors with new heritage-style ones, created an island bench, added downlights and made a provision behind the sink for a window-like panel to enliven this dark corner.
Most materials came from Bunnings – cabinet doors, tiles, sink, gas stove, rangehood, laminated marble-like benchtop, timber top for the island, lights and paint. It took me almost three months to complete while working full time and I really enjoyed doing this renovation.

I used Blue Diplomatic and White Antique paint, which work well with the timber island and marble benchtop, and I installed 300 x 300mm tile sets with dark blue grout.
