Side tables upcycled with white chalk paint and varnish to create a Hamptons-style look.
I thought I would share a little makeover I did on Kmart side tables that my son gave me. He was moving and didn't have room for them. They were nice when they were new and were still in pretty good condition, but I just didn't like the colour and they were definitely a little bit outdated.
I Googled some ideas and saw a Hamptons style side table for $499 - so expensive and that was just for one side table - which gave me the inspiration to upcycle what I had into Hamptons style side tables.
The most challenging parts of the project were the cross bars because I've never really cut or worked with wood or put anything together. I've just painted and upcycled things aesthetically, but I thought I would have a go anyway. My hubby cut the strips for me, but I measured and put it all together and I love them. The little tables look so nice. The best part was it cost only around $10 for each table.
I saw this Hampton's style side table online, which was the inspiration for my makeover.
Here's one of the Kmart side tables my son gave me.
Placing the first side bars on.
I made a pattern out of masking tape that I stuck to the long strip as a guide when cutting.
The main thing was the two separate bars were straight even though they had to be puttied.
I used Timbermate interior wood putty.
Sanding the filler.
I painted with white chalk paint.
And sealed with a matt spray varnish.
Here's a video I made.
